Initiatives

Since beginning the NSF-STEP funded strategies, Concordia College has seen a 5% increase in the percentage of students who begin their studies at Concordia as a science or math major and remain as science or match majors into their second year

Initiative 1: Adoption of Studio Physics Pedagogy

  • Current Status: Implemented in both semesters of Introductory Physics (calculus base
  • Future Plans: Will also be adopted in algebra-based physics courses in the coming years

Initiative 2: Adoption of Case-Based Learning Pedagogy in Biology

  • Current Status: All sections of the first semester biology course are using Case-Based Learning
  • Future Plans: Review the use of classroom TA’s and create Peer Learning teams instead

Initiative 3: Linked Introductory Chemistry and Introductory Biology

  • Current Status: Successful creation of a linked laboratory section for these courses
  • Future Plans: Explore team taught lab and the possibility to expand the opportunity to more

Initiative 4: Summer Undergrad research for first-year students

  • Current Status: Fully implemented
  • Future Plans: Continue to offer as many student research experiences as possible
