Faculty Development
New Faculty Development Program
The Concordia College faculty development task force formulated a three-year plan for new faculty development. In brief, the plan follows the format below:
Year 1: Faculty development for teaching (review of pedagogy, writing, liberal learning, etc.) by bringing in a series of senior faculty to share their expertise and experience and lead discussions on the topic. New faculty are expected to attend monthly meetings during their first year. Discussion and updates on common resources, including the writing handbook, writing center, oral communication center, and library.
Year 2: Faculty development for advising. Second-year faculty are introduced to the Advising for Vocation model centered on Sink or Swim: Best Practices in Advising for Vocation. Within this context, they are oriented to the four year advising plan. New faculty are expected to attend monthly meetings during their second year of employment.
Year 3: Third-year faculty are invited (not mandated) to participate in the mentoring program offered through the Dovre Center on Faith and Learning.
