Faculty Development Opportunity

Join 12-15 Concordia colleagues for the Faculty Writing Retreat at Lesnoe Ozero, the Russian Language Village on Turtle River Lake near Bemidji, MN.  Facility details below.  The all expenses paid, six-day retreat extends from Sunday, May 17, to Saturday, May 23, 2009.

Join a community of writers who offer each other support and informal feedback during the writing retreat.  Participants will spend several hours each day on individual writing projects or writing-related scholarly activities, but join other writers for meals at the Lesnoe Ozero dining hall, featuring Russian cuisine, a ten-minute walk away. Snacks will be provided on a daily basis as well.  Participants may have opportunities for additional activities such as pontoon excursions, hikes, a tour of other Concordia Language Villages, evening trips to local eateries, and more.

Participants will be expected to work on reading and writing projects that somehow contribute to the Concordia community of scholar-teachers, such as work on a dissertation, publication, creative endeavor, curriculum writing, and so on.  At the end of the retreat, participants will write a short report that summarizes the progress made during the week.  Once the report has been completed, participants will receive a $150.00 stipend.

Gregg Muilenburg, Division Chair for Core and Academic Development, and Joan Kopperud, English, will facilitate the retreat.  Laptop computers and other writing resources will be provided as needed.
