Federal Regulation of Business

As a student of business, whether you find yourself in the future as part of the regulators or the regulated, you are guaranteed to find this course worth your while.

The major goal for the course is for students to learn about the pervasive influence of governmental regulation on the daily operation of business. The course is designed to show students the objectives of government regulation to various aspects of business, and examples of regulations that must be dealt with on a regular basis (CIA, Commerce, EPA, FBI, FDA, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, NSA, OSHA, PCAOB, SEC, and embassy and Congress committees).

This is an important course because:
(1) Governmental regulation is a major cost driver for businesses. Regulatory costs frequently impact how business is conducted, and sometimes cast doubt about whether business is operationally feasible.
(2) Regulation is an integral component of business operations, and gaining an understanding of the regulatory process is essential to being able to devise strategies to comply while at the same time succeeding in business.
(3) It takes place in Washington, which is a great, great city!

Accommodations for this course are in a Marriott Hotel in the D.C. area. Half of the weekly meals are provided as part of the fee. The hotel has a full in-room kitchen that is completely equipped (dishes, cooking items), Internet service is available at no charge, as well as work out privileges at a Bally’s facility that is in close proximity to the hotel. Grocery stores and a regional shopping mall are two blocks form the property. D.C. metro service is also located less than five minutes from the hotel. Local transportation to nearby shopping locations will be provided by the hotel on request (no charge). The value of these amenities is approximately $175/week (this is almost $850 for the duration of the stay in D.C.).
