This
summer's research project will involve several aspects of paleontology. The
goal of this research is to identify newly uncovered bone sites in the Hell
Creek formation near Jordan, MT. In order to complete this task, students will
be required to go on daily hikes and record bone sites using GPS devices. Each
night students will be in charge of documenting the day's finds as well as
contributing to the success of the campsite.
While in the field, students will be trained to identify bones,
interpret stratigraphic formations, use topographic maps in correlation with
GPS devices, and run a successful camp site. We will be camping, hiking and
self-sufficient during the field season with a pre- and post-laboratory session on campus. At the
end of the project students will be in charge of writing up a formal report of
the summer's findings, which will be sent to the Bureau of Land Management.
