Summer 2011 Research

"Paleontology"

Dr. Ron Nellermoe
This summer's research project will involve several aspects of paleontology. The first will be the excavation, casting and removal of a Triceratopsfrill found last summer. Students will have hands on experience in all aspects of this process. Following the removal, we will spend time in exploration of the rugged country learning identification skills, mapping, GPS use, interpretation skills related to fossils, forms and formations. This area is beautiful but rough country northwest of Jordan, MT, where exposures of Hell Creek formatting stimulate exploration. We will connect with other professional groups when possible and possibly travel to Wyoming to explore older Jurassic formations. We will be camping, hiking and self sufficient during the field season with a pre- and post-laboratory session on campus.
