Summer 2010 Research

Long Lake Project

I plan to continue a survey of our new field station at Long Lake. (Dr. Marko will also be assisting.) Past students used GPS/GIS and transects to map tree species at the site, and began a study determining the affects of different planting regimes on species diversity along the shoreline. These studies will continue this coming summer. (Last summer's student poster in hanging in the hallway.) Data will also be collected on native herbaceous plants and invasive species in other areas. Along with the plant community, I am also interested in the pollinators, in particular the solitary bees. I will be conducting a periodic count of the bees during the summer with your assistance. This project will last 10-weeks, starting (tentatively) the last week of May and ending the last week of July.
