Summer 2012 Research

Dr, Jennifer Bath

Dr. Bath's summer 2012 research team will conduct two distinct studies. The first study will be the analysis of recent data (May 2012) compiled in a randomized survey in Bangladesh examining Hookworm prevalence. Data will also be provided for analysis of many factors believed to contribute to the failure of Bangladesh to achieve its current targets for the Millennium Development Goals to reduce poverty and disease.

In addition, the research team will analyze the results of a vaccine trial that is currently underway (trial completes the end of April).  This research will involve the analysis of serum samples from seven groups of mice, where six different vaccines against hookworm were trialed, to examine their immune responses (both their ability to recognize vaccine antigens and parasite antigens, as well as the various types and levels of cytokines present in the serum). Researchers will then correlate the individual immune responses to the level of protection the various vaccines provided.
