Summer 2011 Research

"Safety, Tolerability and Efficacy of Pre-Clinical Vaccine Candidates for Hookworm"

Dr. Jennifer Bath

This summer research project will include analysis of several peptide sequences in a eukaryotic vector followed by a series of analyses on eight vaccine candidates (comprised of DNA or protein) to be analyzed in vivo. The second portion of the research experience will include several simultaneous pre-clinical vaccine studies evaluating the safety and tolerability of multiple candidates, followed by immunogenicity studies, and lastly their efficacy in protecting the organism against hookworm infection. The exact nature of the summer research topic is subject to change in response to the outcomes of the spring research studies. Research will be conducted in the months of June and July.
