Getting Around the Green Way
Campus Vehicle Fleet
When new vehicles are acquired for the campus fleet, efforts are made to purchase models with either a Hybrid or FlexFuel option. The fleet added two hybrid Prius sedans which get approximately 40 miles to the gallon. We replaced four large Impala sedans with smaller Chevrolet Cruz sedans, and two mini vans replaced two 12 passenger vans.
Transportation Services employees make an effort to fit the right vehicle for the right amount of traveling, giving smaller, more fuel-efficient cars to those going longer distances when possible. Also when possible, we will suggest carpooling for student co-op drivers.
On-Campus Transportation
Concordia has two Global Electric Motorcars in its fleet of on-campus vehicles. These two cars operate on battery-electric power and can be used for a variety of tasks. When the GEM cars are not being used elsewhere on campus, the Physical Plant employees use them for their projects on campus. We also have one electric golf cart.
Facilities Management has purchased six specialized industrial work bicycles. Having these cycles in our transportation pool allows thirty percent of the skilled Trades staff the option to use a pedal/people powered cycle in place of a gas powered golf cart or pickup truck. This has resulted in a carbon reduction of approximately 30% within the department.
Buildings and Grounds Transportation
Facilities Management employees now rely on pedal power to travel to their on-campus work destinations. The modified bicycles allow for trades staff to carry necessary tools (even a ladder) to worksites within the campus boundaries.
New bus route: Campus <--> Minneapolis
As a result of the Transportation Working Group’s efforts, Concordia College joined the Jefferson Lines College Connection network with the addition of a campus bus stop direct to Minneapolis. Departs daily during the academic year from the curb cut at the South side of Memorial Auditorium on 12th Ave South. Visit the Jefferson Lines website.
