Electrical

At various locations across campus, we replaced 40 watt T-12 lamps with 28 watt T-8 lamps. These new fixtures use 17% less energy and last twice as long. We also replaced metal halide lamps with fluorescent lamps in the Field House/Memorial Auditorium, Olson Sports and Fitness Forum, swimming pool, and the heating plant. This resulted in a 50% reduction of kilowatt usage in these areas.

LED exit signs were installed across campus as well as used LED fixtures on the exterior perimeter of the stadium storage building. LED lighting results in an 85% savings of energy.

We installed motion switches on the bathroom fans at Bogstad East and in various classrooms at Bishop Whipple Hall, Grose Hall, Academy Hall, Old Main, and Hvidsten resulting in energy usage only when someone is in the respected area.

Also in the Olson Sports and Fitness Forum, we retrofitted the fluorescent light fixtures reducing energy consumption by 42%. Across campus, many fan and pump motors are now installed with variable frequency drives resulting in an average energy savings of 18%.

We are also in the process of upgrading the building automation systems for temperature control and have already added zone heating controls at Aasgaard house.

The lamp count in Academy 207 and Lorentzsen 40 was reduced from 4 lamps to 2 lamps which reduced the energy usage of those offices by 40-50%.

In Hoyum Hall dormitory rooms, we installed fluorescent task/study lighting which is more energy efficient.
