Guidelines for the Pre-Search Study

The pre-search study conducted on campus October 8-9 by Robert Holyer and Judith Ward, AGB Search, consultants to the Search Committee, has three primary purposes:

To ensure that AGB Search’s consultants are well-informed about Concordia College and the CAO position so that we can perform our consultative role with genuine understanding and sensitivity.

To give a variety of constituencies an opportunity to offer their views about the future needs of the College’s academic program and the priorities for the new CAO. It is essential for these views to be known at the beginning of the search. Moreover, providing this opportunity will build confidence in the process and its result.

To enable AGB Search to produce a search prospectus that outlines College needs and priorities, proposes a related set of desired characteristics and talents to guide the search process, and suggests procedures and processes for the search itself.

The search prospectus will be immediately useful in helping the search committee build consensus about the priorities and procedures for the search. It will also be helpful at the end of the search in assuring clarity of expectations with the appointee. Finally, it will be invaluable to the appointee in her/his first months and years in office.

AGB Search’s consultants Rob Holyer and Judith Ward will offer guidance and support to the search. To accomplish the purposes of the pre-search study, they will complete a comprehensive two-day interview schedule with constituent groups at the College, as well as make a careful review of representative publications and reports. They will consult with President Craft in developing the plans for the visit to ensure that it will achieve all of its intended purposes.
