Dr. Dovre's Family Weekend Sending Remarks
You have had these days of reunion and celebration: good entertainment, a winning soccer game, bean bag competition, three-legged races, ice cream, academic conversation and good food-maybe a trip to Target or Wal-Mart or a meal off campus. But whatever the activity-you've been together again.Soon the campanile will sound and some will return home and others will return to campus life. In some sense, two different worlds but in the family sense-still one world where affection and affirmation and a shared story hold you together in unshakable though invisible embrace.
And, in the words of our late campus pastor Carl Lee, on the homeward journey you will pray: "I'll love you forever, I will pray for you always-As long as I'm living your parent I will be."
And students will express in their own words: "Mom and Dad, I'll love you forever; I'll care for you always. As long as you're living, your child I will be." And so the journey will continue and the ties will never end.
Go now in peace and safety and in the glow of God's love for you all.
