Dr. Paul Dovre's Homily Collection

As originally delivered at homecoming and graduation ceremonies, these homilies were intended to by heard by audiences of alumni, faculty and students, family and friends. The nuances of rhetorical pace and delivery by Dr. Dovre are therefore missing in these printed versions of the homilies.

Readers will miss Dr. Dovre's tone and inflection that he deemed important at the time of delivery. However, readers will gain a unique glimpse into the intellectual perspective and key points of view that Dr. Dovre wished to stress.

For the first time, these homilies are accessible for casual reading, for further study, for revisiting important memories and as documents that are a lasting legacy of Dr. Dovre’s presidency -- an important period in the history of Concordia College.

Dr. Dovre regarded these homilies as singular opportunities to speak about the mission of the college in the context of the texts of the day and the "affairs of the world."

The Preface includes Dr. Dovre’s perspectives about this collection of homilies.
