CONCORDIA EMERITUS BOOK SIGNING
Odell Bjerkness, Concordia College emeritus professor, will be in the Cobber Bookstore signing his newly published book, "The Prince and the Nanny” from 1-4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2.
In addition to teaching French at Concordia, Bjerkness was director of the May Seminars Abroad program and executive director of Concordia Language Villages.
Berkness’ book about Prince Harald, now the King of Norway, is based on the journal of Harald’s nurse, Inga Berg. Her well-written journal chronicles in great detail the early life of the prince. Bjerkness translated the document into English with commentary and built a case for the monarchy’s close relationship to the people. He also included relevant historical background in the book. The nurse’s journal provides a rare glimpse into the private lives of the royal family during a period of transition in the Norwegian monarchy from a formal, traditional lifestyle to the more familiar, unpretentious lifestyle of the modern Norwegian royals.
Bjerkness will also be speaking at 7 p.m.Tuesday evening, Dec. 2 in the Jones Conference Room, Knutson Campus Center. He will read excerpts from his book and everyone is welcome to join in the discussion.
The Cobber Bookstore is hosting the author book signing as part of the Open House marking the beginning of their annual Christmas Sale.
